Airports in South Africa were operated and owned by the state until July 1993 when ‘ACSA’ (Airports Company South Africa) was firmly established. An Italian airports’ company ‘Aeroporti di Roma’ won the bid in 1998 becoming a tactical and resourceful partner, paying R819 million to gain a 20 per cent share in ACSA including amongst others, five major groups together owning 4.2 per cent.

Falling under the umbrella of ‘ACSA’ are nine airports, namely; OR Tambo International, Cape Town International, King Shaka International, Bram Fischer International, Port Elizabeth International, Upington International, East London, George and Kimberley Airports with many smaller privately owned airports scattered across South Africa.

Taking a flight with ‘Kulula’, besides South Africa’s three major airports (OR Tambo, King Shaka and Cape Town Int.), you can also get to Port Elizabeth, East London, George and Lanseria airports with the choice of flying either ‘Business’ or ‘Economy’ class. ‘Kulula’ is a franchise partner with ‘British Airways’ and has associations with ‘Air France’, ‘Europcar’, ‘Tsogo Sun’, ‘Protea Hotels’, ‘Discovery’ and ‘Kenya Airways’.

It’s easy to spot a bright orange ‘Mango’ flight above. Besides our major airports ‘Mango’ also flies to Lanseria, Port Elizabeth, George, Bloemfontein and out of South Africa, to Zanzibar with ‘Economy’ class seating. In partnership with ‘Mango’ are ‘Tsogo Sun’, ‘Momentum’, ‘Avis’ and ‘Tempest’ car hire, ‘Sanlam Reality’ and ‘AIG’ insurance. Account holders with ‘Edgars’, ‘Jet’, ‘Boardmans’, ‘CNA’ or ‘Red Square’ stores can conveniently purchase tickets on their customer accounts.

If you need to be in Cape Town, Johannesburg (‘OR Tambo’), Port Elizabeth or George fast, take a cheap ‘FlySafair’ flight in ‘Economy’ class. Partnered with ‘FlySafair’ is ‘First Car Rental’, holding company ‘Safair’ with ‘Radixx International’ and ‘ezy’ being associates.

Independently owned, ‘Skywise’ is South Africa’s newest low-cost airline, presently operating flights between Johannesburg and Cape Town in ‘Economy’ class. It has ‘Avis’ car hire as a valued partner.

‘SA Express’ is a state owned airline reaching twenty destinations in South Africa with seating in either ‘Economy’ or ‘Business’ class. It has partnerships with six reputable car rental companies and for your accommodation, is partnered with ‘Hotels.com’ and ‘Booking.com’ including ‘SAA Alliance’ affording ‘Voyager’ member travellers the associated benefits.

‘SAA’ (South African Airways) flies to no less than twenty airport destinations within South Africa offering ‘Business’ or ‘Economy’ class seating. Besides the many international ‘Star Alliance’ partners, ‘SAA’ has partnerships with ‘SA Express’, ‘Mango’, ‘Swaziland Airlink’, ‘Avis’, ‘Europcar’, ‘Bidvest’, ‘Legacy Lifestyle, ‘Total’, ‘SpecSavers’, ‘Seeff’, ‘Nedbank’, ‘Radisson Blu’ and ‘Diners Club’ including others.

‘British Airways’ flies within South Africa to Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London, George, Bloemfontein including Hoedspruit and Nelspruit (Kruger Mpumalanga) in classes of ‘Business’ or ‘Economy’.

Whatever your travel requirements may be and regardless of where you need to go, you have an excellent choice of either a cheap flight or one with all the frills to get you safely and comfortably to your destination.
