When to fly to China

Planning your flight to China should be based on specific regions you’ll be visiting and the type of weather you enjoy. Běijīng is ideal for travelling during September, October and November with pleasant temperatures and although there’s rain, its unlikely to interrupt outdoor activities. If you love the heat then Běijīng during summer would be perfect with temperatures reaching 30°C and occasional short downpours.

Getting around China
Don’t think of hiring a vehicle in mainland China (Běijīng and Shànghǎi), It’9s difficult besides the complexity of the road network. Rather hire a car and driver from your hotel.

Flying from one city to the next is not the best solution with flight delays being the worst in the world, but flight discounts are frequent, except for weekend flights into large cities such as Běijīng and Shànghǎi.

Long-distance bus services, available in all cities and the majority of towns are extensive, travelling to areas not accessible by train, and cheaper. Routes between large cities are operated by private fleets that provide larger, more comfortable and cleaner buses, some with toilets, hostesses and complimentary snacks and mineral water. Sleeper buses are favoured for long-haul routes, however they cost twice as much with bunks being a bit short and there have also been numerous fatal fires.

The subway/metro system is efficient, cheap and quicker than driving.

Taxis are fairly cheap and its advisable to only take legitimate taxis that are a particular colour.

Boat and ferry services are more common in coastal areas and ideal for reaching offshore islands. Navy vessels are employed in Hong Kong, connecting the regions countless islands including Macau. Tickets can be bought at ferry terminals or travel agents.
